Hello! I heard weird noise coming from the right rear everytime I hit the brake. I went to an auto repair shop to check out the problem. He told me that I'm using aftermarket brake pads. He wanted me to change the rear pads to original Nissan one for 120 dollars. He said that may solve the weird noise problem. So is 120 dollars for the rear Nissan pads reasonable? Any comments are welcome. Thank you.

From my experience, unless you buy brake pads and change them yourself, most place charge about that much to get the job done.

I think you should see a different mechanic.

Is it a scraping, grinding noise? Or a squeeling noise?

The scraping or grinding noise is a good sign of worn down brake pads. If you change one side, it is a good idea to do the other. You can check yourself if you have the equipment to take the nuts off to get the wheel off. The brake pad should be thick and even wear on the rotar. If it is thin, change the pad, if your rotar is distorted, change both.

You can get full assemblies from an Auto Parts store, do some research and ask questions to find the ones that will best fit your car. Get someone reliable to do the grunt work. A guy friend, or father-figure. Mechanics charge for the parts and the service.

You didn't mention if you put the pads on yourself? If so, there is a product (like a liquid rubber) that is painted between the pad and caliper that quiets many noise issues. One brand name is "Caliper Quiet". It reeally just keeps the pads from rattling/vibrating. This is a couple bucks and maybe an hours work.

If that isn't it, see about Bendix brand aftermarket brakes. We have 8 vehicles and these have performed well for us over many years of experience. These run about $40 a set.

Your mechanic said that it MAY solve the weird noise problems? Maybe you should tell him that you don't want to spend up the **** to POSSIBLY fix a problem.

Anyway, if you decide to go for it, your best option would be to go with original Nissan parts. I think the price is reasonable.

Good luck!

If you are buying cheap auto zone pads they will make noise.
There are other quality brakes pads that are cheaper however the
Nissan pads work the best.
