Most women prefer a vaginal delivery. A natural birth is a birth with out any drugs, which most women don't do, very painful. C-section is most likely when a women is too small to have a baby vaginally or if something goes wrong and they have to perform an emergency c-section. Otherwise women are to have a vaginal. Every labor and delivery is different you never know what to expect. Having a c-section makes recovery a lot worse than a vaginal because it's surgery. Some women that have baby vaginally have no tearing or no eptisomy making recovery easy and painless. But if you tear or have an eptisomy recovery is painful and makes sitting down very hard to do. Lets just say there are advantages and disadvantages to either one.

You usually do not have to push for a few hours with naturla birth- the normal length of time is about an hour but usually less. I have had two drug-free births-My first labour was 13 hours, my second i was in pre-labour for 7 days and in active labour for 5 hours. It was hard work but i truley enjoyed the experience. I pushed with my first for about an hour but it took a hwile because i never felt the urge to push. I loved giving birth to my babies it was truley an estatic experience. I would say to just not worry about it now until you plan to concieve or fall pregnant but once you ahve fallen pregnant to address any fears you ahve about the birth, take private classes that aren't with the hospital or if you don't have the money to just chat to a lot of women who have had POSITIVE birthing experiences and read a FEW (not too many just 2 or 3 good ones is enough) good books like "Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth". Answering your question about after the baby is born naturally there is nothing else you have to do. Usually you will be just have a bit of a swollen vagina which should subside quickly, sometimes it will take longer if you had a few tears or an episiotomy BUT episiotomies are done too often by doctors and can most of the time can be avoided if you empower yourself with the right knowledge before giving birth. Your vagina doesn't change shape or become "loose", your pelvic floor muscles may become a bit loose but you can regain that strength by doing exercises. It shouldnt effect your sex life or how sex feels for both of you either- from personal experience i had about 6 stitches with my first at a young age and sex was great, betetr than ever afterwards and since then i have had another child which i had a small tear but needed no stitches and there is no difference. Remember that csection is MAJOR surgery and should onyl be done when it is a MAJOR medical nessecity

I had a c-section for my breech baby. No choice for me. The healing time afterwards is about 6 weeks and you can't get out of the bed for about a day afterwards because you are catheterized. It took me a day after surgery to be able to eat and not feel like I was going to throw it back up. Hospitals won't let c-section babies room in unless someone is there with you all the time. And c-sections are major abdominal surgery! Granted, docs do lots of them so I'd say they are safe, but major surgery always has risks no matter how good your doc is. I also had trouble with my inscision. Some of the knots in the dissolving stitches got really irritated and I had to go to the doc and have her clean it up and mess with it which was really painful.

Natural births seem painful before the birth, but I'd rather have the pain before (and you can always get the epidural which everyone loves) than after when I have a baby to care for! Vaginal birth moms I've talked to say they were up and about and doing great a half hour after the birth.

I wouldn't choose a c-section. The question would be epidural or no epidural for me.

Well...I might choose one if I knew my baby was going to be 9 lbs (I'm small and my family has a history of avg babies;my husband is 6ft though) and her head circumference was going to be 95-97 percentile!! She got my husband's side's big head (and not too shabby overall size), so I'm not sure if my body (5ft petite) would have been equipped for that!

I had two c-sections....because I had to. I will say this....Thank You God! I have so many friends who have ripped and torn in ways I can't imagine from natural birth. However, I have a lot of friends who have had very normal natural births. It seems like the more patience they had during the pushing process the better the results. Once you bring forecepts and suction into it you are probably going to have some tearing results.
The other bonus to c-babies is that their heads are so nice and round and their color is really good right off the bat! I'm not an advocate for c-sections. I tried to go natural but it just wasn't in the cards for me. I'm just saying that I have NO REGRETS about not ever having a baby naturally.

Natural birth is always better. Your body was made to handle the stress of natural birth. People psych themselves way more than they should about the pain and problems of birth. Truth is, a good epidural takes away most of the pain, a good doctor/midwife can get you through the rest. After a natural birth, you heal very quickly. A c-section will always be a surgery, and it will have cut your muscles, fat, etc. It takes weeks/months to heal, and you will more than make up the pain after the birth when you try to get up and realize you can't because your all stitched up down there.. and you would still be bleeding from your vagina as well.

C-sections are only last resorts.. always go natural, and don't be afraid of the pain.

I have only had a vaginal birth so far (currently expecting #2), but I would think that the recovery would be a lot faster than with a c-section. I also loved that fact that I could see my baby (mostly his head) as he was being pushed out. The best part for me was that I got to hold him right after he was born. I know that moms who have a c-section are not able to do this. The doctor immediately put him on top of me and it was the most wonderful moment of my life. I hope that my second child will be born the same wayl.

Natural birth is better by far. You have a much less shorter healing, and re-coop. Plus you won't have a visible scar on your body.

With a c-section, you'll have a visible scar and a much longer healing and re-coop process.

As for safer? I'm sure both are safe, but ususally you only get a c-section when their is something dangerous going on with you or the baby during labor. Although now a days people schedule c-sections according to their lives and work schedules.

I had a c-section and if you don't have to have one...don't. Vaginal birth is a much cleaner, easier healing process. C-section women have a much higher rate of having scar tissue trouble later in life b/c they have to cut your stomach AND uterus. It's major surgery and it took about 2-3 weeks for me to not feel it anymore...which is difficult to be laid up with a newborn for that long. So I guess you can see where I stand! Any doctor will tell you that vaginal birth is much safer, but if you need a c-section...then you need it! Either way, you get a beautiful baby so it's worth it. Good luck!

I had both. The natural birth hurts at first but only takes 1-4 days to heal. But, with a c-section it takes 2 weeks or longer to heal! I only recommend a c-section if it is needed! My daughter was side ways position (transverse) so the doctor and myself agreed to have a c-section! A c-section is consider major adominal surgery and very painful once the medication wears off....But, if you got a healthy baby out of it than the pain is worth it!!!

There's a reason they call it natural birth - because its a natural process that your and the baby's body is designed for. A c-section is an emergency procedure that can save the life of the mother or baby if there is a problem with the birth, not a casual alternative to having a baby.
