Maybe 5%. How are you today?

Maybe about 5% of them really want to know and those people would be your family, friends and your doctor. Most of the people are just trying to be nice, which is better than them not saying anything at all, I guess.

Less than half of the people who query really want to know, I would suspect. I think it is just a matter of people saying because it has become the norm to say. Like when someone is shoving you on the train and you glare at them, they say, "Excuse me" and you say, "No problem." You really think it is a problem but you just don't say so.

Most of the time I don't think they really want to know or they really don't care. But if I ask, I actually mean it, but I don't ask everyone that question.

When they ask that I start telling them about a pimple on my butt or the runs I got from eating last week's curry for breakfast, just to see if they really want to know

Maybe they don't actually want to know, but visit a small town where everyone says, "good morning" "how are you" etc. Those people genuinely care more for their neighbors and the people in their communities.

Nothing... it's just a figure of speech. Here's a test: the next time someone asks you tell them exactly how you really feel and watch their reaction. They'll probably get uncomfortable.

I think most the people just ask to be polite...I've noticed as people are asking they are also continuing to walk on. Those who are interested stop and chat with you.

I think that the majority of them don't care and just say it to be polite.
