Flash memory is a the kind of memory mp3 players use(it avoids the skipping and stuff) And nothing moves.
the other kind of memory is the kind of memory that a hard disk uses. It reads it from a disk(moving parts, which is why it skips when you drop your old cd player)
You do not need to buy it separately. Its already included

Flash memory is static memory that requires no moving parts to work and remembers data when power is switched off.
Some MP3 players have flash memory built in, if it does the packaging should say something like 'Internal memory 256MB' or 512MB, 1GB etc...
If you have to but the flash memory it will be in the form of a memory card, either SD, Multimedia card and so on, then the packaging should have the correct memory card logo printed somewhere and say, external memory, expandable memory...every manufacturer labels things differently.

Flash memory is the way that your mp3 player stores the song data.
modern mp3 players use either hard drives (like the one in your computer) or flash memory. hard drives can store more data, but are larger and have to load the data. flash memory is more expensive per song, and cant go as high (biggest is 8gb, compared to hard drive players 100gb), but has the advantage of being smaller, more durable, and faster loading of songs. however unless you have a MASSIVE collection of songs or videos (depending on your players abilities) 4gb is currently a good spot.
