The most widely accepted theory is that her and her co-pilot simply got lost, ran out of fuel and crash landed in the ocean. Another theory, more conspiracy orientated, is that amelia was a spy for the U.S government whose plane was fitted with special equipment to spy on the japanese military bases on the remote japanese islands. It is claimed by some that she and her co-pilot landed alive on a japanese island and were taken prisoner.

It probably crashed in the Pacific, but some people believe that she landed on Gardner Island and died there. A skeleton found there in the early 1940s seems to be consistent with Earhart's physique.

I say that her engined died on her and she fell to the ocean or she crashed in a place where her planes wouldn't that easily be found. somewhere in the mountains, etc, or even in an island.
