Detour.............the grandfather of al lfilm noir...in black and white...
A piano player, Al (Neal), sets off hitchhiking his way to California to be with his girl. Along the way, a stranger in a convertible gives him a ride. Al and the paranoid stranger pull over to put the top up only to find the driver dead at the wheel. Al panics and dumps the body in a gully and drives off in his car. Later, he picks up another hitchhiker. Vera, (Savage) the femme fatale to end all femme fatales...and things start at worse...and start to go really bad fromthat point onward...a minimalist masterpiece.
Double Indemnity................1944 film noir. It stars Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson. The movie was adapted by Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler from the novella of the same title by James M. Cain that first appeared in 1935 in abridged, 8-part serial form in Liberty Magazine. It was directed by Wilder. The story was based on a 1927 crime perpetrated by a married Queens woman and her lover...
The chemistry between barbara and fred is sizzling ,the dialogue is Bogart fresh....and the two actors were rarelybetter than they were here...red hot.
Of course there is Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction and Black Widow...but for modern movies I would have to go with Dangerous Liaisons ...with Glenn Close...and John Malkovich....smoking...
And there is Mary Astor's performance in The Maltese falcon opposite Bogart as Sam Spade...helluva ending...Mary brings it in the last scene...and walks off with Bogart's heart in her pocket...
of course there is also Lana Turner's performance as Lady Wynter in the Three Musketeers...good grief...

It depends on your precise topic or research goal, but Thelma and Louise is a great one. If you must have a true story, then Monster is good. But as far as a good fable about women and "deviant" bahavior, Thelma and Louise is the best for sure.
