People often say things like: you're too sensitive, you care too much.

If this is true, can someone tell me who/what shouldn't be cared for and when being insensitive is good?

I am frustrated by people who think happy living can be achieved by this kind of self-centred/selfishness.

Someone explain healthy moderation as it relates to caring and awareness, please?

I think the people that say that to you really don't know what they are talking about because not everybody can be caring and sensitive. Most people aren't and can't stand seeing someone that is because it makes them feel uncomfortable.

Its funny you are asking this question b/c I've been trying to answer this one myself. People tell me the same things. They say I need to not let other people's problems bring me down. I need to be a little less sensitive. And while dwelling on this lately I've figured out what they're talking about. I care so much and I am so sensitive that I let other people's problems, concerns, or what have you affect my own life. I let them hinder me. They bring me down. And that shouldn't be. It's ok to care and be sensitive just not to an extreme. You can feel bad for people or try to care enough to help but just as long as it don't mess with your own life I guess. Like I said I'm trying to figure this one out myself too lol Its hard being this way isnt' it lol I hope you get better at this as I am trying to do the same. If you ever want to talk just email me or whatever. I'm poohshortcake@yahoo.com. Good luck!

Great Question!
I can relate! Your greatest gift can also be your greatest weakness.
I have learned the difference self-care and selfishness when saying no to people. Because I was a caring person I attracted people who would take advantage of me. The following books have helped me
a great deal. Codependent No More and The Sensitive Person.

Being caring and sensitive is a blessing. Do NOT allow your sensitivity to affect your life. It is your responsibility to help those who need help, however you can't want help for someone more than they want it for themselves...that's when it becomes too much!

I think that you have a big heart and people really don't appreciate it enough. Just keep being you and for the people who think you care too much, than care less about them.

Well here are some things you definitely shouldn't care for:

-Emos,
-Emos,
-Emos,
-Beggars,
-Hobos,
-Rich bastards who whine at everything,
-Emos,
-Fictional characters,
-People who you know are bluffing,
-Other similar types of people that don't deserve help, attention or existence,
-In case I forgot to mention, emos.

Try hanging out with people who don't give a flying hen about anything. Might help.

Coming from someone who has been told the same thing countless times.... this is the time to be insensitive and IGNORE them.

People say things like that because they aren't that way.
being too caring and too sensitive is your nature.
and is mine also.
I like caring and being sensitive even if it is too much for others to understand.
Be who you are and if you are happy the way you are then
don't listen to anyone but your self.
