It all depends on the song. If it's a slow ballad I will probably (but not always) finger pick the song. Just as if it is an upbeat song I will probably (but not always) play with a guitar pick.
Some guitarists only prefer to use one or the other. David Gilmour (of Pink Floyd) will only use a pick, but guitarists like Steve Hackett (formerly of Genesis), Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) and Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) will use their fingers instead.

im a intermediate guitar player and i find guitar hero games more difficult than playing the real guitar. for one, you have six strings on a guitar, where as the game has 5 buttons. the game actually has you moving your finger further when you play single notes than actually playing real guitar. where a note on a real guitar might have you just fretting a lower or higer string. the game makes you fret a button that further. i like playing chords on the game. in that, it does feel like your actually playing chords. another thing is that you dont really have to look at a screen when playing a real guitar. so you do need more hand eye cordination to play the game. the songs in the game are set up pretty good. its not just random button presses, the game does have repeatable patterns. its defintely fun. its just easier to play real guitar.

Your fingers ... you can only use the pick one way.. but with your fingers you can strum, pick, mute, etc...
Been playing the guitar for over 20 years... used the pick about twice.... that's why God gave you your right thumbnail.

it depends on what kind of music if its a gentle song play with your fingers because the sound if just ever so slightly softer but for harder music and strumming it's easier and sounds more effective with a pic

depends what your playing. some stuff needs a soft sound so use a finger. other stuff sounds better with a sharp crisp sound so use a plec.
youll need to use fingers for plucking though.

Depends whether you are using nylon or metal strings. Finger picking for nylon, a pick for metal.

depends - if you're playing chords, use a plectrum (pic), if you're plaing individaul strings (like finger style blues) use your fingers.
