I getting a brand new notebook by the end of the month. What I really want to get is an Intel Core 2 Duo notebook with 2048mb, but I might need to save some money for other things. So, the next best thing is one of two choices: A) either just get an Intel Core 2 Duo notebook with only 1024mb or B) get an AMD notebook with 2048mb. I need a notebook that can hold up me surfing the net as fast as I want to, making 20 minute movies, and saving things. The AMD notebooks are cheaper, but I heard that they aren't as good processors as Intel Core 2 Duo, but with my budget if I go with Intel, I'll only get 1024mb, and I really want at least 2048mb. Would the Intel 1024mb be sufficient for making the 20 min movies and surfing the net at high speeds, or should I lean towards the AMD 2048

first of all, RAM does not effect how fast you will surf the web...however, not only is it an Intel Core 2 Duo (2nd gen. dual core), but its a dual core processor and even if its an AMD 64 x2, Intel wrecks AMD in almost every single aspect...where you'll have a gig less RAM, the difference will be extremely razor thin because its a dual core processor and for the fact it won't show much difference...if you were a studio producer, then yeah you could use teh 2048, but for what you're doing, 1024 is plenty, you could hit around 200 MB of RAM available and won't freeze (well it hits 120 on my MacBook and doesn't, i dont know about PCs =P) but for what you need, you'll come to find that the Intel Core 2 Duo will suit your needs very well and it runs at incredible efficiency

Buy the Core 2 Duo Intel processor with the 1 gig of RAM.

First of all, Intel processors have been much better than AMD processors ever since the original core duo's came out, and now with the Core 2 Duo's, there is no reason to use AMD(because Core 2 Duo also run 64 bit programs).

And as for the RAM, you can always upgrade later, and it will ALWAYS be cheaper than if you bought it from the manufacture. Just check newegg.com, 1 gig ususally run for about $80. Currently one gig will be sufficient for what you're doing but more is always better. So upgrade when you have the money.

You can upgrade RAM but cannot upgrade the processor(CPU) so stick with Intel. The benchmark results for Intel Core 2 Duo blows the AMD X2 processors out of the water.

EDIT: By the way, what is your budget? and what notebook are you thinking of getting?

You heard incorrectly. There is nothing wrong with AMD. The problem is, you are confusing Core Duo with a standard AMD. AMD has their version of Core Duo. They call it X2. If you have the chance to purchase an AMD X2 for the same money (or less) as the Intel, it is a push. Get the one which has the most features that you need.

in case you do no longer locate the money for, purchase the turion, yet once you want long battery existence and severe overall performance in multi-tasking purposes and in video games purchase a center 2 duo (as much as 40 p.c. quicker than turion X2). I propose which you purchase the "HP Pavillion Intel Centrino cellular, Intel center 2 Duo Processor T5200 2048MB ddr2 memory"

Your processor and RAM don't have very much at all to do with your Internet surfing speed, that's all up to your Internet connection. Editing movies you will want more RAM. I prefer AMD anyway because they are cheaper and I believe they run better than Intel. I would definitely go with the AMD laptop.

The Core duo machine is the best deal for now, 1024Meg is enough memory to handle most tasks and you can always add more later.

2 gigs of ram will not help one thing unless u play the latest games ... its not a buying point for anything really and doesnt make a pc faster ... get a fast 7200rpm harddrive and a core duo and you'll be fine ...
