I think that Tom Cruise's portrayal of Lestat far outshone that of Stuart Townsend's. Cruise tapped into so many aspects of Lestat's literary persona: the arrogance of "the Brat Prince", the childish lunacy and joy of Lelio in the acting troupe, the lost soul-ness of Lestat locked away until the dawn with Nicolas...even though most of this was left out of the screenplay, he tapped into the parts of the character that were developed throughout the books. Stuart Townsend, on the other hand, was nearly one-dimensional. He was sultry Lestat. It may not be his fault. In fact, it probably isn't. That script was an atrocity, and the director quite apparently sucked. Tom wins, hands down.

Tom Cruise. Although I agree with everyone who said he has gone a bit wacko these days. I probably say Tom Cruise because the movie was much closer to the actual book, and his Lestat was much closer to the description in the text. He pulled off the arrogance nicely, as well as the devil-may-care attitude.
While Stuart Townsend was sexy as hell, he wasn't Lestat, and that movie was NOT Queen of the Damned (if you've read the book, you know whereof I speak!) That character walked around being pretty much "sex on a stick" through the whole misbegotten movie.

Unfortunately I'd have to say Tom Cruise. I used to have a huge crush on him when I was little but lately him marrying a child and going insane has made me no longer a fan of his but still he was a better Lestat. However, I think Stuart Townsend was soooooo yummy as Dorian Grey.

I don't care for Tom Cruises antics but he was definitely a better Lestat.
I thought the whole Queen of the Damned movie was a big let down. They had so much potential with that movie and they came up with that. I was so disappointed.

Yes, I have to agree with you, both in the choice of actors as well as the fact that Tom is so crazy these days he has become the most unlikeable person around! What a nut-job! Anyway, I liked the character in Interview with a Vampire better than in Queen of the Damned; however, that could very well be attributed to the writing, the plot as a whole, the directing, etc., and not Tom Cruise's acting ability because I thought Interview was a better movie than Queen anyway.

Tom Cruise. Even though he's nuts sometimes.... Mission Impossible 3 was good.

I've never been a Tom Cruise fan. His erratic/insane/arrogant behavior lately has made me even less of a Tom Cruise fan.
I'm going to have to default to the other guy.
