Moderate amounts of coffee is ok. I didn't give up coffee totally, but I did cut it down to 1-2 cups a day. And I drank Pepsi too. I now have a happy, content, and healthy 1 yr old. The doctors will tell you it is ok in moderation. Congratulations on quitting smoking though. I quit the day I found out I was pregnant and haven't had one since. As for the answer about having a hot cup of tea--- there is more caffeine in a cup of tea than there is in a cup of coffee.

Yes, I think that was rude. I didn't drink coffee until I WAS pregnant. I had a craving for it. I only had one small cup sometimes two a couple times a week.
It is nice that he/she was concerned about your baby. I ran into something similar when I went to Long John Silver's for fish. Had a serious craving for fish that had to be satisfied. One of the employee's tried very had to convince me I shouldn't eat there at all because of what her OB/gyn told her. (One or two times wasn't going to hurt the baby. it would have been different if I had been a regular-like every week)
We have to give up a lot these days to have a healthy baby and there are a lot of people who think they are experts on the subject, especially men. What do men know anyway? They can't have babies!

I think it was rude, however given that you didn't ask why they didn't go, you cant really jump to conclusions. Moderate consumption of caffeine is not going to hurt the baby. I don't drink coffee, but I did get a craving for it the other day and my husband got me one, if he had of told me no...OMG...it wouldn't have been pretty. You are a grown woman, you quit smoking (good for you!!) and obviously are doing what you can to make sure your baby is healthy. Some people have no knowledge of pregnancy yet they think they know it all! Maybe they were just cheap and didn't want to get you one?

It's nice that he's thinking of your health and that of your babies. Men don't often get the full story about pregnancy. You can show him research that says that the occasional cup of coffee will not cause your child to come out with a third arm.
What he hasn't come to know is that pregnant women can be scary. Especially a nicotine deprived one. Don't bite his head off too bad. Also try a Chai latte, it has caffeine in it and should help keep you awake, but not as much as coffee. And He might not realize that it's in there.

I don't know where he got his info. My doctor said coffee was okay for me. He just said to limit it to no more than 3 cups of regular coffee a day. ( I actually drank more than that. Like maybe 4 or 5 a day.) My 2 children turned out great.
My sister has 9 children and she never gave up regular coffee, either. All her children are fine.
My cousins all drank coffee with their children and they are fine, as well.
As far as decaff not being good for the baby that's BS. My doctor said it's fine.

I think it was rude, yes. He might be thinking of you and trying to take care of you, but ask your doctor and he/she will tell you that 2 cups of coffee or any caffeinated drink a day is o.k. No more than that though, because then it does become a bad thing. Make sure you drink plenty of water too, cause coffee is a diurectic and if you get dehydrated while you're pregnant, life can be painful.

I'd say it was rude and judgemental besides being not informed at all! If they saw you smoking, that's one thing, but it is not clear scientifically that caffeine is in fact harmful to the fetus.
That is YOUR CHOICE!!
You can safely have 1-2 cups of coffee per day (300mg). Be aware that carbinated beverages, tea and chocolate also have caffeine, so you may want to reduce those out if you love your coffee. Caffeine dehydrates you, so be sure to drink your water!
A few cups of coffee a day isn't going to make a difference and shame on the person who refused if that's the reason they did. Maybe they didn't go out for someother reason than your coffee, though!
Even if you wanted to smoke, that would be YOUR CHOICE (though I'm glad you quit!).

Moderate amounts of caffeine will not hurt the baby. I think it is really rude of them to refuse to get it for you. Sure, they're showing that they care for the baby but its YOU'RE baby and you're responsible for his/her health. Also there are some really rude answers on this page! Just wondering if these people know that most tea has more caffeine than coffee? Good luck and congradulatios on quitting smoking!

They say caffeine is ok as long as no more than two cups a day. I still drink coffee and i'm 27 weeks along. It's the same as drinking soda, as long as you don't go over board on the caffeine for the rest of the day then i see no harm in it. It's good that your brother cares but he shouldn't treat you like a child! I think it was rude, totally ignoring you. Next time get a coffee and drink it right in front of him. As long as you have plenty of water in between there's nothing wrong with a little caffeine here and there.

That is completely ridiculous! You have every right to think it was rude and he owes you an apology! He has no right to tell you what you can or cannot have. Also, some caffeine is ok. Of course, try to limit but a small cup of coffee isn't going to hurt and neither will decaf!
The way he acted was rude and uncalled for. Imagine if you told him he wasn't allowed to have french fries the next time you go to a McDonalds!
Bah humbug on him!!!
