It depends on the time of the performance--matinee (the least formal) or evening, gala (the most formal) or a regular, mid week evening performance. However, a long black skirt and a classic evening blouse with long sleeves will do well at any time--sometimes the air conditioning equipment works too well so it helps to bring a dressy wrap, and don't forget your opera glasses. Enjoy yourself.

Wear whatever you would wear to a fancy restaurant... for women I would assume a dress - however I'm sure black slacks and a nice shirt would be nice.

Bottom line.. NO JEANS. There is always some guy at the opera in jeans... and beleive me.. its not the place.

The opera is as fancy an event as an evening wedding. If you're like me and can't afford a fancy dress, you can rent one from a tuxedo/wedding gown rental place. Generally speaking, a tight-fitting and full-length gown is best, with a (faux) fur coat, pearls or diamonds, long gloves, and don't forget the little opera glasses!

I would wear a black dress with maybe some red to it. It worked for Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman"

An evening gown. I would go with a long black spaghetti strap dress. Classy and at the same time comfortable.

to an opera, you will look badass if you wear a business suit with no bra...necklace, earrings, some nice rings. stilettos. just go with the badass attitude...doode.
