How to Clean the Tub This is generally the worst job in any bathroom cleanup. It helps to know how. Steps Run or pour hot water all over the inside of the tub. A bucket is the best way, unless you have a very mobile showerhead. Spray the cleaner at the top of one side, and give it a few seconds to run down to the bottom. Scrub where you sprayed the cleaner, and down to the flat. Scrub hard, until it looks clean. Move a few inches to the side and repeat from step 2. Once you get back to where you started, run hot water over the sides again. Run your hands around the tub. If you feel any roughness, scrub there some more, because it's not clean yet. Spray and scrub the splash guard around the tub. The buildup will be a lot lighter here, but it still needs to be cleaned. If you have a door instead of a curtain, it needs to be washed too. Spray and scrub the tap, showerhead, and anything else you haven't washed. Soap dish, towel rack, it all needs to be done. Run hot water over everything. Twice. You don't want to leave residue. Check the bottom of the tub. If you've got a puddle of dirty water, then unclog the drain. And run clean hot water over the bottom once it's drained. Wash the outside of the tub. You probably won't need the cleaner there, just a little elbow grease. Tips [edit]Turn on the bathroom fan, and open a window. You're working with some nasty chemicals. You get a much better angle on cleaning if you climb right in the tub. You also get a little wetter, but not that much, really. Warnings [edit]You are going to get wet. If you have sensitive skin, you might need gumboots as well as rubber gloves. Things You'll Need [edit]a cleaner that removes mineral buildup a scotchbrite pad or non-brandname substitute a bucket lots of hot water

Carefully.
You need to make sure that you're not wearing any clothes that could be damaged by the presence of bleach. And, make sure you don't leave any bath mats or towels down that you don't want potentially ruined.
There is AJAX with Bleach on the market these days. Follow the instructions on the bottle. Make sure to keep any children or animals out of that room so that they don't get into it.
With bleach... which I hate using but we have to get the stains of the bottom of the tub... be sure you're wearing gloves and a mask to cover your nose and mouth. If you have something to protect your eyes, even sunglasses, it doesn't hurt! I always close the drain and pour a little bleach in the tub and water it down with water from the faucet. Scrub with a scourging sponge and drain. Assess stain situation and repeat if necessary.
It's really important to completely rinse the shower down after you use either method.

Ajax and Bleach will not create ammonia (Ajax contains bleach), but it is a bad idea to mix chemicals and it's total overkill.
The first thing you need to figure out is what is your tub made out of (fiberglass, plastic, porcelain, steel).
Depending on the material, the cleaning methods vary.
Try a read of this article for some pointers:

Dont use bleach mixed with Ajax. Whatever you do, dont mix cleaners, as a good rule of thumb.
Just wet the tub down, sprinkle some Ajax in there very liberally, and use a heavy scrub brush, not a green pad. Scrub, scrub scrub... then rinse and wash it down the drain...

Never clean anything porcelain with bleach or ajax! If the finish is already gone I use Limeaway and rinse with hot water. If the finish is okay but lime build up mix the limeaway in a spray bottle 50/50 with water. This mix is okay to use on chrome and stainless steel as well. Been doing it for years-all shiney. Just remember to rinse well.

You don't. Use Soft Scrub instead to avoid scratching the finish on the tub.
Mixing bleach with many cleaning products releases dangerous fumes. You would be better off using just 1, or switching to vinegar.
