The period is 28 days, i mean the total period not only the bleeding phase. You ovulate in the middle of your period, that would be day 14... It's simple, try not to have sex on day 14 +/- 7 days... so, the "Safest" would be from day one to day 7... then from day 21 to day 28.... but, there is never "safe"... use protection at all times. Some say 14 +/- 5 is enough, but 14+/- 7 is safer..... ... 2 weeks from the start of your period would be day 14th... that's your ovulation day, you don't want errors with this calculations!

About 14 days from the first day of your period is when you ovulate. If you wait 2 weeks that would be your most fertile time. The week before your period and the week after are supposed to be "safe times" but, you never know.
