I will admit that I discriminate against anyone dressed like a "rapper", this includes latino's, whites, asains, blacks, and the occasional middle easterner. I believe my discriminatory behavior is seeded in the thug attitude that alot of the people dressed in that style seem and have conveyed to me in the past. To those of you who are concerned my discrimination is only limited to judging someone by how they are dressed before ever talking to them.
Now my comparison for the discriminatory behavior has to do with this example...
If a person is badly bitten by a big black dog as a child usually that child "discriminates" against big black dogs the rest of their life.
Why can the same not be true for people?
Growing up I was bullied and picked on by people who dress and talked like rappers.

There is no doubt in my mind that I am to blame for maintaining this attitude until i better know the person, but would you say that I am to blame for becoming discriminatory?
Is it discrimination or a defense mechanism?

it's not psychologically healthy for people to have fear of dogs, after one negative incident. as another poster said. it's the same good old American adage- if you fall off a horse, you get back on it.
The same works for everything else. The human mind is more than capable of lumping people together in groups, but separating the individual. That is what sociology is about. You can say "groups tend to do this", because there is an understanding that each individual might conform to the stereotype, or defy it.
If i see someone dressed as a "rapper" on the street at night, I'm crossing the street or not getting out of my car. (not really, the new look is to go prep. but whatever). But you're not judging someone on an appearance CHOICE. you're judging them on something they can't change. A certain person decides to wear Klan robes. You can assume he holds up to Klan ideals. But not all white people are in the Klan, because they are white like the man who wore those robes

There is no one particular person, group or thing to blame for prejudice and being discriminant. People are responsible for their own action and how they carry themselves whether they were taught from childhood to react in that mannerism or if they're just hateful at heart. I find most of those people who condone themselves in that fashion to be ignorant, lonely, jealous, vindictive and as I previously wrote, hateful people. And you know what? I still pray for their tired behinds. Why? Because it's the way I was raised.

Discrimination and stereotyping are rooted in the brain's natural tendency to group concepts into categories and try to simplify things. When you group a bunch of things into one category, it becomes easier to remember them.
The problem arises when we oversimplify. You may have come to associate people dressed like rappers as thugs, but of course not everyone who dresses that way is like that. So you need to be aware of the fact that you are stereotyping (which you are) and then take the next step and recognize that your fear isn't necessarily valid, that there are some very nice people who dress that way.
The best way to eliminate one's fear of a certain group of people is to get to know someone from that group. Then you will see them as individual human beings rather than some ominous group.

This is an excessively large query. Atheism actually manner 'with out god' and for the reason that so much human acts of devastation had been within the identify of 1 god or an extra, this could propose that they're much less hazardous than men and women with a faith. If you suppose approximately it in a extra summary manner, atheism promotes loose considering and the option to suppose what you wish with out the drawback of any individual telling you what's right with none proof. In this fashion, many faiths truthfully advertise lack of understanding over abilities. (The reasoning in the back of this lays with early society folks looking to kind a viable society that capabilities good in combination. Religion is an excessively potent manner to try this, for this reason why there are such a large amount of similarities among them). So relying on what you imply via damage, in early human society atheism might had been extra dangerous to the development of the human race however in contemporary occasions (the final one hundred fifty years or so) faith is wasting its location in cutting-edge society.

1. I think trauma can do it..When something happens to you that is traumatic..even if it is bullying(happened to me).. A person can be afraid of the people that did it to them
2. Family(People that influence you everyday are important to your mind)
3. Withdrawal..What happened to you ..If you keep your feelings in for years..it can form into something you don't like..Talk to a counselor.and let it out
4. Lack of reading...learn more about all this
5. Lack of exposure..Sometimes people that are only around one kind of people..can develop ignorance in their mind..because they only know what they see in front of their face..and they need exposure to more than whats there
I think that you were traumatized..You need counseling to let it out..I was bullied when I was a child also..it affected me many many years...The thing about the dog bite and all that..I believe it can be the same for people..because a person can be molested or raped by one kind of person and spend their life hating that person's backgrond and not realize what they are doing..Its a trauma thing..Its something that needs to be talked about and released..
I believe it is both a defense mechanism and discrimination..Its the result of all the bullying..but the sad part about it that you don't realize is..You are giving them your power

the media and government is responsible for racism. they show us what they think of each race. they mostly show negative things about blacks and hispanics therefore, people think bad and negatively about us. the same goes for how they portray all races. my brother dresses like that so called rapper but he gets straight a's like me in school, so do u still dislike him, he treats people with respect he helps me and my mom donate things to africa and send money to feed the children.
the media is responsible, have u seen how they only show black racial attacks but never the other way around. they wanna make it seem like only white people can be racist!!!!

well what i say to this is first you mean teh people that talk like rapper just call tem ghetto people its more easier to say. second that discrimination only becomes wrong whent it strats to effect other people like if you see a ghetto person and they sit next to you and you move away. see thats bad beacuse that perosn can be a really nice person. u need to get that concept out of ur head. it will be like me saying b-cuz wite ppl are mean to black ppl i shuld hate all of them. people are induviduals and all act different so not all hetto are mean. im ghetto and iam a very intellctual youg woman and not ghetto. so hope dat answers your question.
