Since prints are full of swirls, it would appear as a smudge. Only if our prints were straight lines could the line be extended.

It would appear as a smudge. In most all cases a rounded portion of your worl would be perpendicular to the swipe direction, smudging those that were parallel.

A smudge... unless all the lines on your finger run parallel to the movement of your finger, which they don't.
