I was always taught that if you called someone a colored or black person it's an insult. I thought that Afro American was the proper term. But I'm white so my opinion on this doesn't matter. For the record what do you like being called? Please only black people answer this or I won't know if it's just an opinion or if it's right thing to do Thanks

First and foremost..we are people....second..colored is considered a racist term...Some older people still use it because when they were younger..thats the term they used I guess in the sixties and fifties..If you called me Afro American..I would look at you like you came out the seventies or something...I would prefer "black"..but first and foremost...I'm a person..If you are talking to other people..or introducing them..You don't say..Here is the "caucasian, spanish, chinese, black, american indian, etc etc...People are People...Please Please also..don't use the n word..I don't care how many of my people use it around each other...its not acceptable...n a or n ending in r.
Even when my black people say the n word..I don't like it..I don't use it..My friends don't use it..My family don't use it..and its a poor way to represent ourselves
Oh..like the other girl said...that you can't call her american...That is very true..some people are not originally from here...We have people from Haiti..Barbados..We have black folk from the UK..etc etc etc...
Don't call me colored..If you do..We won't talk at all..lol..Thats the truth..Anything that was a sterotypical term from the past..should not be used at all...

Though I do feel that the term "colored" is a tad bit outdated, I see nothing wrong with being referred to as a Black American. In the spirit of political correctness, terms like "African American" and "Afro American" sound nice and descriptive; however, the term "Black American" in my opinion best describes the racial group of which I am a member.

comparable factor with me. the two one among my mothers and dads have been born in Ethiopia yet i replaced into born right here in united states of america of america. I purely say i'm African-American (on types) to make it greater hassle-free. whilst human beings inquire from me, I say i'm Ethiopian-American. I bear in mind interpreting sooner or later which you're no longer considered African-American till the 4th era (meaning your super grandchildren). yet on each and every occasion my mom is filling out a sort and that they have got 2 determination of African-American or Black, I tell her to compliment Black in view that she wasn't born right here. wish this helped!!

I'm black.
Colored is archaic
So is Afro American
African American is some white guy's idea of politically correct, not mine.
I prefer Black. That's all.

Well, to tell you the truth, i sort of prefer being called by my name. Would you like me to call you, Hey White Girl, or "Girl who is white and doesn't know many people outside her race and thinks Afro-American is the right word to say".(i think its a funny name, lol). Maybe you need some friends who are diverse! That's how you'll understand more people outside your race. God Bless You~

I prefer "black" to the P.C. African-, Afro- (outdated) terms that whites seem confused about. Colored on the other hand...
