No. I have had to obtain a copy of mine as i lost my original. You just need a few details to give them something to work on, so as to get you the correct one. Usually parents names and date of birth and place of birth.

No.... if that were the case then everone who had ever lost their certificate thru fire or disaster would really be scr*wed wouldn't they?
Contact the county where you were born and find out the process for obtaining a duplicate. In some states it is now a State office, however that may not be true for all 50 or the US territories.
This also assumes that you were not a 'home birth' where often the birth was simply recorded in the family bible (a lot of that in the 60's and 70's)
good luck....

No, and don't listen to any people who say you need to go to a County office, court house, or municipal building. It only involves a few clicks online. First, search for the Vital Records website of the state you were born in. You will find more information there. To answer your question, you do not need the original certificate, but you will be required to provide certain pertinent information, such as the name of the child, date of birth, place of birth, and mother's maiden name.

The easiest and cheapest way is to go on to the GRO site and order one, The cheapest one is just £7 but you need to know the page and entry number of the register your birth was entered in. You can go on this site though without these details and give your full name, Parents Names, Quarter and year you were born and the district you were registered in. It sounds more difficult than it is. You can get the register details from your local reference library. Ask one of the assistants in there for the St Catherines index for the year and quarter you were born and you will be given a reel with all the births in for that quarter. Get the reference details there and you have a start. I have ordered certifcates from here in the past and they are very good and usually arrive within 2 weeks.

Many people lose their original birth certificates for one reason or another..like fires, floods, moves, dog chewed it -- they need it for say a passport okay so they go to the county hall of records be it in person or via mail then they ask for a copy. My suggestion is to get them to put a certification stamp on it so that it verifies you as to being legal. For some reason that extra little stamp on the back for $.50 is worth a lot. the whole process could cost you any where from $12.00 to $25.00 depending upon what state and what county.

If you had your original birth certificate, why would you need a duplicate?
Think about it...

No. You need proof of your identity, and different cities require different amounts of proof. I had to replace my birth certificate after some things were stolen from me, and I was required to bring my driver's license, social security card, and tax forms. Call your local Vital Records Office and they can tell you what you need to bring.

No, just contact the clerk recorder's office where you were born and your birth was documented. They require a fee you will have to pay but you can pick up a copy easily or they can mail it to you.

I had to get one for my daughter as she'd lost hers while moving house. I had to fill in a form at the registrars office where she was first registered (it's quicker than doing it from another one) and hand over about £22. Took about 4 working days to get the new one.
