It bothers me, but then I think "If I was getting minimum wage to do a crappy job where there's no value placed in the employee due to the fact that they are so replaceable... would I be giving in 100% ?"
As a cashier you get yelled at all day long, work with crappy people and don't get paid enough to live. People expect you to be a super friendly happy person who knows how to do everything instantly and correctly. Stores change their operations all the time and don't always spare the time to show the workers how to do anything. And sometimes its the customers fault. Where I work we are timed and we have to be able to serve someone within a minute. Three minutes is supposed to be the total from the time they walk in. When someones on the phone, not paying attention or just slow, the wait time increases and the employee is penalized even though we are not allowed to ask them to stop talking or speed up. Yes, some of them are just dumb. But sometimes there are factors such as: No lunch today because you're working a double and people have been screaming at you and your manager doesn't bother to train or stock your drawer with enough change, and the person you are waiting on is a total jerk who is treating you like your a vending machine.
The person behind the counter is still a person, and can't be perfect.

Especially if the cashier is like 115 years old and scans like they'll break their arm if they do it too fast. Or when they put your deodorant in with your eggs (I really had someone do that once). Or when something's on sale and you have to argue with the cashier to ring it up that way and then they do a price check and the light above the station flashes and then they find out it really was on sale and you were right all along. The other customers bother me too. Like when there's a sign that says "EXPRESS LANE: 15 items or less" and the people who obviously can't read and/or count come up out of no where with a buggy full of groceries for the next two months. And you know when you go in to just get one or two things and you're running late and it seems like all of the above happens at once....

That's why I check out who's at the register before I go. I have been shopping at the same grocery store for several years now, so it helps that I know some of them. But when I go to a new store, OMG, I just want to smack some of them. I think they should have an IQ test in order to work with the public and money.
Example: last week before a party I needed a few things to take with me and I wanted to get some dollar bills to use for gambling when we played poker. I paid for my things and then handed her a $20 and asked if she could trade it for 20 $1 bills. She stared at me blankly. I told her I needed dollars to play cards and would like to trade the twenty. She said "do you want a differant 20, or some tens or something?" It took 15 minutes and help from the manager for the girl to understand. Pitiful!!!!!!!

seems that every time the American or non American goes to the store they seem to be training these people yes .Remember when you started your first job how you felt , I remember I wanted to crawl under the counter and cry. I think if they have been working at the place for awhile then I get a little mad but most of the time I walk out of the store with out paying for my Pop that I had at the bottom of my cart and they were told that it was there and I don't realize it until I get home,so if they want to put these people on the floor then go on ahead it's not my job to tell them more then once. Like I stated remember when you were at that point in your life you were not born perfect nor were they but sometime s it benefits us in the long run.

It reflects on the employees training. Ask to speak to the manager and describe your concerns. Ask when the offending cashier will work again and schedule your shopping accordingly.
If all else fails there is always the Better Business Bureau to file a formal complaint.

I try to have patience with them, because I was a cashier once and it was a dull, horrible job. But when you arrange your items on the conveyor belt so carefully that they would have to try extra hard to screw up the bagging and you STILL find items mis-sorted, it's a little hard not to get ticked off at them.

Nah; I give people lots of slack in situations like that. Seriously. Could be that they're having a bad day, working off some bad news... Who knows.
What REALLY gets me is when a cashier EXPECTS me to bag my own groceries, while he or she texts someone on their cellphone. Makes me go absolutely ballistic!

I stood in line once and the cashier did not know how to figure out the proper change to give to the customer ahead of me, I had to help her out, I kind of felt bad for her.

It annoys me when I have to deal with anyone that's stupid. I especially like it when cashiers don't know how to give me change or when they ask what 10% of an item is. I actually feel you should be allowed to slap stupid people.
