If you had a teenage party at your home and some kids left drunk (you didnt really know they were drunk or didnt see them leave) and were killed in an accident, and the poilce asked you what your kid was doing and you knew they were drinking, would you turn them in? I mean, would you be totally honest about the party?

It was a story in the Chicago Tribune, and it made me think what I would do. It sounds like the parents knew they were drinking, but wasnt minitoring so didnt know how drunk they were when they left. They tried to cover up afterwards.

I really don't like to lie, but I am afraid I probably would in this case. Unfortunate that we make some really dumb and costly choices in our life, before we learn that there is a reason why they should not of had alcohol let alone drink and drive. Chances are they will find the parent responsible for what happened rather then the child.

If this is a true story, you should be contacting an attorney as soon as possible. You could be liable as well. If anything, I wouldn't be speaking with anyone else about this party because what you say can be used against you. You should call an attorney and ask if you are liable, and what are your rights and the sooner the better.
Try findlaw.com to find an attorney in your area, or contact your local state bar referal line. (they sometimes offer discounts on consultation fee times.)
And remember what you say CAN be used against you, I wouldn't be speaking to any other parents or possibly the police untill you know what to do after speaking with an attorney.

YES!! Eventually the law will have enough clues and then point it back to you so might as well be honest up front no matter how hard it is. And like you said you didnt know they were drunk but you being the adult should have been paying attention

Honesty is the best policy. Especially if there were fatal consequences. Everyone in the world needs to be responsibile for their own actions. Even your children. It's called tough love. Don't be an enabler. if you lie about this, it won't be the last time something comes up that you'll feel you have to save then from. It's a never ending battle until they are held accountable for themselves.

That is a tough question, but I would say be honest. Why would you want to live in guilt for the rest of your life. Teenagers have to learn from there mistakes not have mom and dad lie for them all there lifes. Put your place in someone else's shoe. Would you want the other parent to be honest?

Here's the Law. If an Adult knowingly allows underage kids to drink in their home, or buys the booze assumes responsibility. If someone loses their life you have to pay the price. To not take responsibility, you are saying the ones who were killed because of your bad judgement, life had no meaning. This my friend is why we have laws.

First you say you didn't know they were drunk and then you say you knew they were drinking??? Either way, be honest. A lawyer at the trial will get the truth out either way. Its just easier and cheaper to be honest.

I would be honest with everyone even yourself cause you are not a very good mom or dad if you let teenagers drink no matter what. oh by the way it's jail time for you and the teen

I would say I learned after they had left that there had been drinking. It wouldn't be giving up your kid because they're a minor but you would be taking on tremendous financial liability and you could lose your home.
