The best way doctors are recommending is to use luke warm salted water and goggle with it ; But first used luke warm salt water to sniff up your nose to clean it out. Usually it is sinuses drainage which causes sore throats.
Before you go to bed take some thing like tylonal to make you sleep after goggleing and sniffing the water.
