He made a big mistake marrying someone that is so irresponsible with money.

But yes, he should be able to add you to his checking account. However, I suggest that he not deposit everything into this account - as most of it is likely to disappear.

No, you cant & shouldnt. You are on what is called Check Systems. You cant open another account at another bank as someone suggests. Once you are on check systems, it is just like a credit report - its there for 7 years. Being on the system means just like you said, that you have written many bad checks & the bank closed your account b/c of it.

If you have taken care of what you owed the bank, it will still show up, but will show as paid. If you didnt take care of it, do it, b/c you will be out of luck. Now, just paying what you owed to the other bank, will not mean automatically that you will be granted full account privillages again. Depending on the bank, you may only be eligible for a savings, w/ no ATM card, or you may be fine. Other banks still wont touch you until after your 7yrs.

The reason that I say you shouldnt is b/c, when you add yourself to someone elses account, you have to go through the same steps as if you were opening an account. If you are allowed to be put on his a/c, the restrictions that are to be yours will also be his. So if you are not allowed an account with an ATM/check card or checks, then niether will he.

Keep in mind, all banks are different & the rules may vary by institution. So one bank may let you & another may not. Depends on how strict they are.

Yes-just because you wrote bad check in the past does not mean you can't open an account at a different bank. I would suggest getting a check card that way you do not have to write checks!! Been in your situation and I know from experience!!

There is a site called newchecking account.com that helps you get a checking account. It tells you the names of the banks that will let someone wth issues in the past open new checking accounts. It works, I had to use it too. You can find a local bank by locating what state you live in and what banks are in your area.

Have him put you on as just a signatory, but not a joint owner of the account. This would allow you to write checks, but you would not be jointly liable for the account. Your credit or record should not matter for this limited purpose.
