Left my abusive husband and a drug addicted lifestyle. Took about 6 months to get off food stamps; a year to get completely self-supporting. It's been 3 years now....

Thank God I don't have to live like that anymore.

Those services should be a handup, not a hand out.

We had food stamps for like a year because my mom was a single mother of 4 and she was in nursing school.

No to the first part of your question. I know several single women with more than 2 children that work full-time, however, because their children are not school age a large part of their wages go to child care and because of this and the fact that they have to pay for shelter and utilities they can not afford enough food to feed their family.

My husband got hooked on drugs and I left with 2 small kids to feed and keep a roof over their heads and food in their bellies. I never received child support, so I had to swallow my pride and ask for assistance. I knew what it was like to be poor and hungry. But I always made sure my kids were fed.

Yes, I had to have help last year, and I got them but not very much because (this is our government for you) I made to much money. Well, if that was so why was I asking for help then!!?!! I was only on them for like 3 months then I got a raise so I wasn't even about to go ask for anymore. Muha!

No, I was actually born into a wealthy family and I've made more money since then.

Wow, that's the truest thing I think I've ever said on this board!
