There is a slot in the fuse box (under hood) of my car (88 corolla) that is labeled "efi main." However, nothing is in it. What is it and could the lack of this component cause my car to no longer start (turns over, but doesn't start)?

Thanks for all your responses. My car has a carburetor, so i guess thats why theres no EFI breaker. Thanks.

EFI stands for "electronic fuel injection"

The injectors are controlled typically by a computer, so if the main doens't have a fuse in it, I would say the car would not start. (But it would still turn over.) If you don't inject any gas, you don't get any ignition.

EFI generally stands for Electronic Fuel Injection, and, yes, if you're supposed to have something in that slot, you should. That would explain the car not starting, as without your fuel injection, you got no go-juice.

It is *PROBABLY* Electronic Fuel Injection. I'd guess, if someone took the fuse out, the engine would still crank but not start (the starter would turn the engine over but the engine will not run on its own)

It should be listed in your owners manual. It won't hurt to stick the proper fuse in there and try it.
