Rap is just spitting a flow, just dropping any lines just cuz they sound good together. anyone that knows how to rhyme words and owns a thesaurus can rap.
But like my boy kat williams said, hip hop is a nation. it's the culture, it's beatboxing on the stoop, it's battling your friends on the corner, it's the sense of style, It's a place your mind can take you when nothing in the real word seems to make sense or go your way. It's a sense of character and belonging. People who do hip hop, do it cuz they love music. people who rap do it for fame and money. Real hip hoppers like Nas, tupac and Biggie did it to reach and teach people like themselves in their own community. To tell their stories, they speak truth, whether people want to hear what they have to talk about or not. That's why I get so mad when I hear people disrespect hip hop, cuz if you're direspecting it, you don't understand it and probably shouldn't judge. You don't have to like it but please respect it. People talk about how crude the language is in hip hop songs and everything is swearing and talking about drug dealing. People even wanna stop it from being played. But they don't understand that silencing hip hop would be like telling a person they couldn't write a memoir or a poem. They couldn't write a book about their life because their lifestyle is too crude. Or like telling someone that their religion doesn't count. It's real life accounts, take it or leave it.
