I witnessed my OWN neighbor in my house while I was coming home from a 10 minute outing. STole my camcorder and dig camera and ran! He finally pleaded guilty and still has not paid restitution he owes us as he has been sent to jail for other things on top of this too. Now his younger brother and friends are getting into trouble (drugs I suspect) and I fear more problems will occur with them. We are right next door and I have four kids under the age of 6. I cant afford to move. What can I do to protect myself and the trouble they are bringing into the normally safe neighborhood? I dont want to be a nark to the cops but should I do it anyway-I'm afraid they will retaliate and trash our cars or house. HELP!

The best you can do is buy a calendar and dedicate the whole thing to documenting the goings ons that you observe. Then if something does happen, you will have a history to share with any judge that reviews the case.
Are they renters? Sometimes you can get on the landlord's case and with your documentation you might actually arm the landlord with the necessary tools to evict the losers.
Are there other neighbors that you can enlist to "keep watch" over your house? Are they also documenting issues created by these people?
Perhaps owing to the stress and fear they are creating, the next time you have to go to court over these people, you can have an attorney request that they also fund a security system for you. ----Not that collecting on all that is so easy, as you are discovering. There are agencies that can pay you out a percentage of your settlement and then THEY start a new collection hearing and go after the people for even more than the original settlement. You might research one of those firms.

What was the restitution? If he's in jail don't expect anything--yet. As for your cars and protecting your property: install motion detector lights with light sensors. This would be the best for your buck unless you can afford aprivate guard! I think some come with sound too-not sure.
Do not leave anything on your property: toys, etc. Be sure to lock your cars at all times. Good luck

well you can't do anything unless a criem has been comitted
as for your judgement against your neighbor, get someone to collect on the judgement for you (they take a percentage)
otherwise, go to court and get an order of protection against your neighbor (document any thing and all events that would lead you to believe that their activities or friends are endangering your children).
