Yes! I recently read the book and found it to be one of the best ones I have read in a while. It is about Elphaba and Galinda, the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch respectively, and how they came to be who they are known as from "The Wizard of Oz." I also recommend reading "Son of Witch" by the same author as it is basically the sequel to "Wicked".

I personally prefer Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire. But Wicked was an okay read. I know some people really like it. I never really fell in love with it though. It was a bit too graphic in parts for my taste. Descriptions of a green person having sex just wasn't doing much for me. But everybody's different.

Yes, read it. And if you like it, also try "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister." Gregory Maguire is an intelligent, witty and sardonic author. It was cool to see things from the wicked witch's point of view.

I tried to read it when it came out, but I just couldn't get into it. Go ahead and try it. You won't know if you'll like it unless you try it. Follow the Nancy Pearl school of reading, if you aren't into it after 75 pages, you probably never will be.

It was just OK.

I thought it would be better because of all the hype about it.

Personally, I liked 'Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister' much better!

I enjoyed this book for it's face story and the underlying views - ie. socialism, racism... I have suggested it to many others.. as well as the other books written by this author.
