If a pregnant women chokes should I do the Heimlich Maneuver or can it harm the baby?

You should do the chest thrust in a very pregnant woman. This is like the Heimlich except you grab around the middle chest instead of the upper abdomen.

Wow. Thats a really good question. Generally theres still enough room at the base of the sternum to apply pressure for a heimlich maneuver, and since its an upward motion damage should in theory be minimal to the expanded uterus.

I mean, we're talking about a full term giant pregnant woman here, obviously.

Hmm. That one really makes you think.

No, you can do the Heimlich on a pregnant woman. When doing the Heimlich you place your fist directly under the breast bone and pull back and up. There is no harm to the baby if done right.

You can perform the heimlich maneuver to a pregnant woman. It's perfectly safe. You would have to perform the same actions as a any normal person, however just above her stomach and below her breast area is where you would pump.

The Heimlich maneuver is done right below the breast bone, not on the stomach.

No actually because you are performing it right "between" the rib cage and the stomach and you are thrusting upwards so if you do it right you should be able to avoid clocking the baby in it's dome.

You do it under her breasts...in and upward thrusts.
