I've seen this question come up a few times, and there's a lot of great solos that have never been mentioned. Please rule out those that have already come up and suggest a rare jem maybe others haven't heard.

I play guitar, and can play a lot of solos on it. One of the absolute sweetest solos with touch so exquisite I find it nearly impossible to play well is

"Life's Been Good" by Joe Walsh.

What's a less common one you love?

Guys, here are more less common answers:

"Ohio" - Neil Young
"Straws Pulled At Random" - Meshugga
"Where Were You" - Jeff Beck
"La Grange" - Reverand Willie (ZZ Top)
"Whole Lotta Love" - Jimmy Page
"La Villa Strangiato (live) " - Alex Lifeson
"You Got The Silver" - Derek Trucks (on Susan Tedeschi)
"Rubina" - Joe Satriani
"The Big Picture" - Ty Tabor (King's X)

My problem is what defines a "solo". Is it small part of a tune or is it the entire tune, sort of like the stuff Jeff Beck does?
Here are two of my favorites:
"East-West" Paul Butterfield Blues Band - Mike Bloomfield guitar. One of the first extended solos years before Hendrix came on the scene.
"Harlem Nocturne" Danny Gatton. I must have 10 versions of Danny covering this one.

Add on: it never ceases to amaze me that there are so many Jimi Hendrix fans but they can't SPELL HIS NAME RIGHT.

Burning of the Midnight Lamp - Jimi Hendrix
Their is a beautiful slow solo at the beginning of the song and I cannot ever remember hearing that song on the radio. Also:

Red House
Wind Cries Mary
Little Wing - Jimi Hendrix (also Stevie Ray Vaugh)

Probably all mentioned before but I love Jimi

Johnny Mayer plays a great solo on his J3 Live CD on the song "Wait Until Tomorrow". It is a cover of an old Jimi Hendrix song. Wow!

Easy. Jason Becker - GOD OF THE GUITAR

Check out his website, he is an inspiration to all.

www.jasonbecker.com

At a very young age he was poised to revolutionize the whole solo guitar genre when he was stricken with ALS. (Lou Gherigs disease) which robbed him of virtually all motor function. His story is one of ironic trajedy. (A virtuoso guitar player with a great skill has usage of his hands taken away from him.)

Jams in particular that I like:
Air
Serrana
Speed Metal Symphony (Played with Marty Friedman when they were in a band called Cacophony.)

Guitar solo in Jethro Tull's song Aqualung is my favorite guitar solo. It's not too flashy, but melodic and tasty as all getout. Every note fits just perfectly in place.
