i have to do a project for science and part of the project is to think of a lab idea. the hard part is the lab idea has to be based on earth science (meterology,astronomy,oceanogr... or geology) the lab idea has to be unique and it can't be a lab that is able to be done in 2 days. (the longer your lab and the more effort you put into it the better your grade)

Can you please help me come up with a real good lab idea your help is highly appreciated.

P.S. make the lab easy enough for a 9 grade student to do.THANK YOU SOO MUCH

I work in engineering and the effects of soil modification is a very good and practical project.

Possible project get a clay soil (plent of it for multipleruns), dry in oven, weigh out equal amounts of it. Keep control samples, and "modify" other samples. Lime and fly ash are commonly used. Various types of lime can be tried or other additives (whatever you thinnk of - fertilizer etc). Liquid limint and plastic limit test are used to determine the suitability of a soil for use as a foundation. The LL test requires an apparatus but you can do PL test - see website below. A bit complicated but a unique one for a high school lab.

Properly disposal of hazardous materials.
HCL bad acid
Caustic soda bad base.
Mix small amounts together ,both are very deadly .
Get your teacher to check your results.
If u mix correct amounts together and check for a PH 7 which is salt .
If it is all OK u will have Table salt and water. If u want u could dump it in the river. By correctly neutralizing hazardous materials this way ,they are no longer hazardous.

Write up an explanation of how you created the earth and used tectonics and weather patterns to develop it from a magma-covered greenhouse planet to the world we know and love today. You should get credit for about 5 billion years' worth of effort.
