Well, like all Democrats at the time, he was pro-slavery. But I do like the story about an assassination attempt on his life, and he responded by knocking the assailant down with his cane. Also, he spoke with a thick Irish accent.

He pushed many of the Native American tribes out of their lands -creating the "Trail of Tears." I personally don't think very highly of him, though it does seem he was a great war hero.

The trail of tears, says a lot of a mans character, too bad this things are still going on in this world.
