When your GYN checks you for ovarian cyst but then that ask you to take a blood test for CA-125. Is that good?

Please do your research before getting too wound up about a ca-125 test. Yes, it can be helpful. However, there are SO MANY false positives and negatives with the test. Many non-cancerous conditions (endometriosis, fibroids, etc.) can cause elevations. These false positives can lead people on wild goose (err, geese) chases. So, it can definitely be helpful, BUT let's not over-estimate its utility. History, symptoms, pelvic exam, ultrasound and laparoscopy (when indicated) are definitely the most important components of a proper diagnosis.

Because it's not a a suitable screening scan for ovarian melanoma!! Look on the data: - one million. Only approximately eighty five% of all ladies with ovarian melanoma have raised CA125 two. Only 50% of ladies with early level ovarian melanoma have raised CA125 three. Women with different stipulations too can have raised CA125 So if you happen to did the scan and it was once terrible, you could not say for certain you DON'T have it, and if it was once postive you could not say for certain that you simply DO have it. Good? that's not the right adjective. Smart is the right adjective. Even if they think it's a cyst, double checking a blood marker for cancer is in your best interest. Don't panic though, just because your doctor is being thorough doesn't mean they think you have cancer! good luck!

Most definitely! You should request that every time you have a pap smear. It can prevent ovarian cancer if detected at an early stage.

If you're under 50, they're not cancerous. They ask you to take that blood test to ascertain it's not malignant. I wouldn't sweat it...
