There were only a handful of people who knew about Watergate and the Enron case, and there were leaks to the public in those cases. With the hundreds or thousands in NASA and high government officials 'in the know' there most certainly would've been leaks if there was a coverup. Our government is not THAT competent to seal thousands of lips.

Are you insane?
It would be the biggest news in the world - as if NASA would cover up a finding that would result in them getting about ten times as much funding! It would be the biggest discovery in the history of mankind, proof that we're not alone (statistics show its very unlikely we are but we shouldnt assume we'll find life in our own backdoor, it could be a lot rarer) its a bit cynical to imagine that it would be covered up.
You watch X-files too much! Go read some Carl Sagan. Pale Blue Dot is a wonderful book.

no, the governement covers up more than you could ever know. Remember Orson Wells radio broadcast? Imagine that all over the world, with the present state of society. Russia's government admits to having observed UFOs. And then look at the US. If they'll cover up something in your backyard, why wouldnt they cover up something you can't see?
Plus it would go against that little phrase on all our money :)

I doubt that it would be able to be concealed for long. But I don't trust this administration with the respect to politicizing science and I wouldn't put it past them to try and cover it up so as not to rile the fundies and evangelicals in their power base.

Yes, they would. Most likely any life found on Mars will be microbial and non-sentient. There would be nothing to gain from hiding that.

Of course they would. Someone needs to wake up the muslims, jews, christians, etc. on this planet that GOD did not create their religion for the sake of THEMSELVES.
There is life all over the universe.
