Some companies sell there sims with call credit on it already. So long as the call credit on it is less than you pay for the sim card, then the difference is free call credit. many people offload sims on ebay for a few pence, even though they have calling credit on them. The only downside would be porting your number, if indeed the provider will let you.

But sometimes you can get a free top up for registering the pay as you talk number, i think its a £1 on Vodafone
