She could do the Effects of Various Substances on Teeth. You can get real teeth from the dentist or you can use eggshells, which have a very similiar composition to teeth. You soak the tooth, or egghshell, in soda, milk, juice, and use water for the control group. Simply check the solutions every other day, and record the results. Compare the appearance, texture, and strength. Surprisingly enough, the juice will decay the eggshells, or teeth faster than anything.

E-Waste it is a grossly over looked problem. She could collect data and statistics from Carnegie Mellon, California DTSC, and the action group Basal Action Networks. She could show how computers and other e-waste never biodegrade and need alternative treatment. She could interview Recyclers like SoCal Computer Recyclers (www.socalrecyclers.com) for process and public awareness. It could really be a strong presentation and go along way to helping educate the community to the importance of recycling this ever growing problem. Good Luck!

Give me a price range and general area of interest and a time frame. Don't worry if the price range is zero the time frame is more important she has to understand what she is doing

Where the fair takes place makes a difference, nice outside or an auto shop available, I know a neat way she could degrease everyones engines with no one getting dirty.

Have her check out the resource book Even More Fizzle, Bubble, Pop & WOW! . It is a book full of science experiments that have real science theories behind them. One of my favorites is dropping a roll of wintergreen lifesavers into a 2 liter of pop. (It blows up). Here is a link to purchase the book at: http://www.ooeygooey.com/mary/shop/index.cfm?action=cat_select&categoryID=12

Oh my, it worries me that you began your question with "I need." It is your daughter's job to think of her "original" science project. You can support that by taking her to the library and so she can review some books on science projects -- there are many. Or check discovery.com, "science fair central" for more ideas. I'd strongly recommend that you not do this for her.

1. Make your own underwater antibubbles.

2. make an electromagnet (I've done this before, so feel free to ask me if you have any questions). Here's a site that will be easier to understand than me trying to explain it.

3. Make a simple telescope

What are your...I mean her.... interests. The topic doesn't really matter as long as long as quality effort goes in. Save the world...do something on global warming.
