During the last Presidential Election: Did you vote for the candidate you chose because that was the one you felt was best for the country/representing your interests? Or did you vote for that candidate because he was the lesser of the two evils?? If it was the lesser of the two evils. why didn't you consider a 3rd party candidate? Did the electoral college factor in your decision to only vote for Kerry or Bush?

So here's the REAL question I have for you:
Did you only look at a candidate based on their probability of winning or because you truly felt he was going to do a great job as President?

(I'm trying to test out my theory that if the electoral college was not a factor, more people would vote for a minor candidate).

i voted for kerry because i didnt like bush. i completely agree with you, if the election were determined by the popular vote i would have considered a third party candidate. with our current electoral system, no one outside of the two main parties has a chance, so many people refrain from voting for them.

I voted for Kerry, because I didn't agree with Bush's political views. Kerry was not a Strong Democratic candidate but if I voted for an independent my vote really wouldn't count.

Yes the Electoral College did factor into my decision. Bush should not have one the 1st time he didn't win the popular vote.

First, you have a false premise. If you vote for the lesser of two evils, you believe that is the best for the country, at least of the available choices. If you are trying to promote third parties, try organizing the "Small State Project". This involves having an 'minor' party move their entire membership to a single small state. They This established them as a significant voting block in that state. After voting themselves in a the state level, they can implement their platform as an example to the rest of the country.

Bush was a FAR better candidate than Kerry. The really ironic part is that I believe Bush was VERY beatable in 2004 - but if Kerry was the best the Dems can do.....gads.

As an Alaskan, the last 2 elections were the first ones I can remember that the damned media wasn't telling us who won before our polls even closed!!

I voted for Kerry. I have voted since 1972 and I was happier voting for John Kerry than for any candidate in my life time.
I was incredibly impressed by his integrity and his statesmanship

The Rove strategy, employed in every election he has worked on is to attack a candidate's strength. The sad thing is that so many people bought so many of the lies. Senator Kerry would have been a far better President than Bush.

Earlier today, I watched the SFRC on CSPAN3. The Senators were questioning a panel on the war in Iraq, if this is replayed on one of the CSPANs or (on the web) , today's hearings illustrate well how intelligent, knowledgable and sharp Senator Kerry really is. The foreign policy debate where he destroyed Bush was not a fluke. (That committee by the way has Biden, Dodd, Obama and Hagel as well - though I think Obama was not there today (likely he had a meeting in another committe - this is incidentially why no Senator attends 100% of all committee meetings for the committees they are on.).

By the way to the Veteran, - Kerry had a plan that did give veterans many benefits - it was on his web site in 2004. You may want to check out this link. It is the premiere of a film on PTSD, Max Cleland and John Kerry are there along with the NH National guard people who spoke of programs they set up to help returning Iraq vets. Kerry introduced legislation for funding in the spring of last year and was able to get part of what he wanted in the lame duck session in November.http://ksgaccman.harvard.edu/iop/events_forum_video.asp?ID=2973

Kerry has been an advocate for veterans for nearly 3 and a half decades. He helped VVA , an organization that he was involved with (with Bobby Mueller) from its beginnings get the designation it has as an official veterans organization. He also volunteered to be sworn in to testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Agent Orange use he saw in Vietnam when Admiral Zumwolt's son was too ill with cancer (likely caused by Agent Orange) to testify. (His son was also on the swiftboats.)
This was likely why hundreds of millions of dollars were thrown at destroying Kerry's reputation.

I chose not to vote for either the demo's or repub's as neither had anything good to offer me or this country. Look what has happened as a result of taking the easy way out. The biggest national debt this country has ever seen, a war that we should have never started in the first place, and your rights and privacy as a U.S. citizen being thrown into the wind, i.e. The Patriot Act. If people would only wake up and get another party voted in to government, that is only 5% of the nations votes. We would start to break up this bi-partisan ***-kissing that goes on in Washington.

surely, that must be the 2d woman Vice-Presidential nominee. Geralidine Ferraro replaced into the Democratic nominee in 1984. i'm not sure what variety Hillary Clinton replaced into, yet there have been woman applicants till now, purely none that did as properly interior the primaries and have been given so on the brink of the nomination. My expectation is that, in hindsight, it purely isn't too unique. The demographics of this usa are changing and we are 40 years because of the fact the civil rights flow peaked. you would be seeing greater potential women human beings and minority applicants interior the destiny.

I voted for President Bush because I am a republican who does not trust Democrats and I would have only voted for Kerry if he came from the same city I resided in, even if I disagreed with his policies.

I always consider a number of factors.
First: Who is best for the country. I voted for Perot when he ran because I thought he would be a good American President. I knew he had no chance but it was important to me to make my vote count.
I voted for George because I knew his character. I knew him as an honest decent man more interested in American that in being President. Kerry I knew to be a liar and a man whos every action was done to make him look good. He is a man who wanted to be president for personal emotional reasons.
Second: Who has character and who has emotional guts. Sometimes all the candidiates are honest and decent and would make a good leader. In those instances I look for the character who has guts. America is not America because the world cares. America is America because we stand up for ourselves. We need leaders who put American interests first.

When Bush stood up to the Koeyto (sp) accord, he was standing up to the rest of the world and to Americas LIberals. The K Accords have proven to be useless and not functional. No country that radified the treaty has abided by it. Bush knew that way back when and acted on that knowledge. The rest of the world is still playing KA make believe.

I was really disappointed with Kerry, being a vet I thought he would reach out to us vets. I expected to tell us that we were going to get more benefits etc. so we would all vote for him. However Bush did address us vets when he said "vets are getting good health insurance and will continue to do so."
