Too bad most of the people that answered this have a negative look at WallMart!!!! I love it too. Saves me allot of money on almost everything I buy. I do almost all of my grocery shopping there. The over-the-counter medications are "very" reasonable. Too bad if they run out the smaller stores. It saves me money!!! and that's all that counts!!!

I don't know why all these people are so negative. It is a wonderful store to shop. You have not just one or two brand names in the store but several. And I sure don't feel like going all over town, just wasting my money on gas, just to buy my groceries at one place, clothes at another, household needs at another, and hobby supplies at another. My goodness, that is 20 dollars in gas just to do that!!!! And the "idiots" you talk about is mostly the senior citizens or school kids that are either supplementing their social security or just starting out on their first job. Or maybe it is a new mother that just found out that it is hard to live on a limited income from just the husband.
Today's bosses don't pay enough for just a one person income. So if the other bosses just stop being greedy with the money, maybe wal-mart, target, and k-mart will cease to exist. And who in the world wants to just pay for the store name. That is what everyone does when they go to bed, bath, and beyond, Parisian, etc. Not the merchandise, but the store name.

It's not that many don't like Walmart, it's some of their philosophies that I dont like. I know a couple people that work in the store near me and they tell me that the company does not pay well, Sam's doesnt either. I can't see why the world's largest retailer can't pay better than they do and offer some type of health plan. They are large enough to be self-insured.....
Everyone has to have money to make it, and it's taking more than they are paying to do so.

I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart! Many years ago ee used to have a regular Wal-Mart store close to my house and I shopped there all of the time - I really loved this store! It was always busy but very well ran. Then Wal-Mart decided to close this store down and open up a Super Wal-Mart about 2 miles down the road from my Wal-Mart - BOO! Anyway, I went to this Super Wal-Mart a couple of times and decided that I would not shop there. Most of the employees are idiots at this store and are reallllllly slow. The check out lines are terrible - there are never enough open and it takes forever. I find the store way, way to big. I now go to Target! It is a much more pleasant experience and the quality of the merchandise is better - and the employees are not idiots.

Two reasons....
A. Because people don't like to be associated with the trailer trash that stereotypically goes there...I could care less, I go for the cost savings...
B. People buy in to the idea that Walmart pushes out the Mom and Pop shops...yeah they do...it's called Capitalistic Competition and the consumer is the winner, not Walmart...I will shop where I want to...and if walmart has a better deal I'll go there...
Who cares about what the Media or other self righteous people thinks...go where YOU want to go....

Wal Mart works by getting below low prices from local businesses under contract, forcing them to make capital improvements which will take decades to pay off, and then not renewing the contract when the local business cannot go below the low low price.
They drive small businesses to the grave. I refuse to shop there.
A large corporation can afford to market there, since they can write off the profit losses. A small company cannot do this, despite the fact that they provide a better product.
And consumers assist in this by running to the Mart to save $0.04 on a low quality product.
So tell me what you "LOVE" so much about Wal Mart?

Walmart is a business, just like any other, and a very successful one at that. Being successful makes it a target for those who don't understand what it takes to be successful (like Cat--I'd like to see her run America's largest employer differently--and still be as successful).
Walmart offers a service which fits a need. When a competitor better fits the need, Walmart stands a chance of being knocked off the horse, but until then, they're doing what they feel is right for their business. If Americans WANT to buy all American products, they will. If Americans WANT to buy cheaper, foreign made goods that fit their need as well, they will.
Supply and demand. Economics 101. Walmart's doing it well (and half of the accusations made by the Walmart Haters of America (WHA?) are completely unfounded, speculation, or judgement based on competing ideology and are in no way based in fact).
I also love Walmart and will continue to shop there. Walmart brings jobs to depressed areas, provides low cost goods to improve the standard of living in those areas, works with local vendors to sell local goods, and participates in its local communities by contributing to scholarships and local charities.
Go Walmart--give em hell.

Because the snooty will adorn nothing less than a designer label on their scrawny little bods...possibly because mommy and daddy enjoy throwing their money in the hands of Tommy Hilfagger and the likes.
Frankly it's funny because when the day come these kids have to fend for themselves and make a buck they soon come to appreciate how hard it is to make and eventually see the light...I don't like the clothing in Walmart (for myself anyhow, ok for the kids) but I will certainly look for deals on everything else there.
You have a much wider selection in the States (on just about everything) than we do in Canada...I've never even heard of some of the gadgets and gizmos you guys have down there up here.
Just so you know all the American stores did away with our "mom and pop stores" we had up here.
In the old days we had Canadian owned Simpson/Sears, Eatons, Towers Department Store, and others that slip my mind...they are all gone because they couldn't compete with Walmart.
Towers turned to Zellers which Hudson Bay bought out and now they're being considered for by out too, but we dont have Target or Kmart or anything else...and NOBODY can compete with Walmart...so that's why they are popular here.
The designer stores are ridiculous. Hoodies for $75, Jeans for $125, Boots for $300....and that's all the spoiled rich brats want to wear and working class mommy and daddy are more than happy to supply them with.
You know these kids can't even get a job for $7 an hour...and parents are really stupid to have allowed their kids to fall pray to media and peer pressure.
My kids do great with stuff from Urban Planet and other stores which carry just as good stuff and I buy on sale and get hoodies 2 for $30 and they are every bit as nice as the $75 ones...Walmart has some good clothing for kids...they don't sell meat or anything up here just corner store type items, crappy candy and canned and boxed foods...the rest is your usual department stuff and electronics are cheap.
EVERYTHING is owned by corporations...Walmart keeps the money they make in THEIR pockets and pays employees zippo. They buy in ENORMOUS bulk and ship these items all over the country.
NO ONE can compete with that.
I preferred the mom and pop shops because those days, we made MONEY because WE were the ones manufacturing the goods...now CHINA gets it all, we get sh*tty jobs and are are the working poor, living paycheck to paycheck, and NOBODY can get ahead anymore.
And all the TRUMPS and HILTONS and other rich pricks of the world are heralded as heroes that everyone gawks at and tries to imitate...give me a break...it's nice to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth.
For the record I hate Walmart, but I shop there, for some things, if I know that they have the identical item for less I will save myself some money, but in principle, I can't stand the place...their employees are brain dead and for the money they are paid couldn't care less about your problems.
Customer service should not be your priority for shopping Walmart that's for sure.
The rich and snooty have enough (or pretend they do) and want to live the high end life....so let them...money isn't the be all and end all of everything.
The more money people have the more they spend it, and in 3 months those clothes will be old news and they'll be spending more...so what does it matter it's all equal in the end really. You all end up in the same place, old and dead.

People are ragging on walmart for other reasons that are more important. I think people who grew up in neighborhoods w/o walmart think it is beneath them just because they aren't used to it. I am used to target and walgreens and bed bath & beyond for everything. There was no walmart by me. I was in one once and frankly, it had cramped aisles, dirty / disheveled merchandise, and was way way too big. Also, I felt bad for the employees - so I stick to what I grew up with. Here is some other important info though...
Wal-Mart has become much more than just a small corner store in rural America. In the past 10 years, Wal-Mart has grown into the largest retailer in the world -- number 1 among the Fortune 500 -- and is America's largest employer. With more than 1.4 million employees and over $10 billion in profits, Wal-Mart is a giant company with giant responsibilities. First and foremost, Wal-Mart has a responsibility to all Americans to set the standard for customers, workers and communities, and to help build a better America.
The truth is that Wal-Mart has let America down by lowering wages, forcing good paying American jobs overseas, and cutting costs with total disregard for the values that have made this nation great. Wal-Mart has needlessly exploited illegal immigrants, faces the largest gender discrimination lawsuit in history, forced workers to work in an unsafe environment, and -- incredibly -- broken child labor laws.
America's largest employer must reflect America's values. But, Wal-Mart will never change on its own. Lee Scott, Wal-Mart's CEO, mistakenly thinks he only answers to a few wealthy shareholders who own Wal-Mart stock. Lee Scott is wrong. Wal-Mart and Lee Scott must answer to the American people.

I wondered the same thing. I think scruffy touched on the reason. It must be political. Politicians and unions want the money that w.m. makes and w.m. will not give them any money. Hillary worked for W.M. and they would not give her any stock options or extra money. SOoo,,I've come to the conclusion that it is just not politically correct to shop there. They have great bedding and sheets there.
