1) I will look at the two equations and decide which variable is most easily eliminated.
2)If it is x I decide to eliminate, I will take the necessary action to make the x terms in both equation the same value but of opposite signs. For example, I may have to multiply the 1st equation by 2 and the 2nd equation by -3 to accomplish this.
3) I will then add the two new equations and the x term will be eliminated allowing me to solve for y.
4) I will then substitute the value I found for y into one of the original equations and solve for x.
