based on a true story

2007-01-10 06:25:07 · answer #1 · answered by jjp 2 · 0 0

No it is not. The story is supposedly based on Ed Gein, but it is not. Ed Gein used to wear the skin of the dead he would dig up, that is the only simularity between the two. He never carried around a Chainsaw, he wasn't part of an inbred family...none of that. Texas Chainsaw massacre is a made up story, with a disclaimer that it is based on true events to try and intrigue you and prompt discussion about the movie to try and furthur the profits of the movie. Murder In The First is another example of this.

And though Krissy is correct in the Ed Gein part...he WAS NOT a serial killer. He enjoyed the already dead. He only killed two people. Which does not qualify him as a serial killer.

:)

It is based on aspects of the real life serial killer Ed Gein. Ed Gein didn't do a lot of killing (mostly grave robbing) but his story is the basis for Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well the highly popular films Psycho and Silence of the Lambs.

Absolutely not. They say that it is inspired by a true story and they are referring to Ed Gein but I don't think there are many similarities at all. Not even close. Ed Gein did make himself a "suit" out of the skin of people he had killed and used bones to make such things as belts and lamps. But Ed Gein was born to a normal family and there was no inbreeding. There's virtually no truth to the story of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I remember when I first started getting into researching serial killers. I thought Ed Gein was crazy and I was definitely fascinated but I was disappointed to learn that he was not at all like Leatherface.

It's not true but it is loosely based on the serial killer Ed Gein who killed and stuffed his mother (Norman Bates is based off of him) and he hung human skin on his walls and used skin to cover his furniture. He was really freaky.

Not really. It is very loosely based on Ed Gein, the serial killer. Here's a link with more info:
