Talk to them, rationally, logically and calmly.I was a street kid who had a drug problem and topics such as drugs and sex need to be dealth with in a certian manner or else you are just pushing your children away from you and into the arms of addictions and the downward spiril that comes with it.If you catch your child possessing drugs that is the first sign to recognize that there is something wrong that needs immediate attention and yelling, screaming or laying down laws by over reacting will not solve anything but rather make a bad situation even worse. These days it is not easy being neither a parent or a child but there has to be an understanding,an openline of communication and trusting bond that should a vile situation come up or if things in your childs life are bad; they can turn to you as a child in need of help and you to love and accept your child and help them to keep from destroying their lives any further.Lets face it when a child is young there are pressures and issues these days that most adults can't even deal with.We don't live in Walnut Grove any more.So what can we do???There are no simple answers just a lot of hopes in prayers, awareness and hoping that should your child make a mistake or a bad choice-that they can turn to you and not away from you.If I didn't get the beats and told constantly what a piece of **** I was I would not have ever done to things I did but running away at 13 and not knowing any better or having anyone to turn to makes the world an unbearable lonely place;the drugs give you a way to deal-as a parent don't ever do that to your child.peace.Riz>...

If you want a serious answer from a teenage perspective, I'm 14 and awhiIe ago was caught smoking marijuana. My mother was very upset when I was caught, so she made sure I was under strict supervision (ie I had to go to her office daily after school, no going out unless it was an event supervised by a trusted adult, etc). Even if I had wanted to do it again, I also had to go to drug classes sponsered by a local hospital where there were weekly urine tests. At first, I thought the idea was stupid, but it was quite informative. My class watched drug videos and had discussions about personal experiences and those of friends, some of which were insanely scary. Try to find a program like this near you, and if the local program thinks your child needs more help, they'll help you find what you need to help your child.

Trust me, I'll never do drugs again, though your child's experience could differ.

First off I would take the drugs away. Then I would have myself an interrogation, who, what, when, where, why, how???? Then the child will be the one disposing of the substance.(example: flushing down the toilet, or smashing or destroying the paraphernalia like pipes, & bongs & needles etc.) I would sit with my child at the computer or library & look at pictures & stories of what drugs do to your mind & body... Then manditory home drug testing for 1 year. A repeat offence would be a straight ticket to re-hab. And grounding for 1 month. I know I sound strict but I love my children enough to dicipline them. Just what I would do.

Nail them to the wall!

Then calm down and have a long talk with them. They would be earning my trust back for a long time to come, and I would be going to everyone and their brother for advice on the matter. I would try to treat the first offense more as a problem than as a crime, but after that I would crack down.

Sit down & have a serious talk with the kid. I,unfortunately, could speak from experience. I don`t think all the usual "horror" stories have much effect, but my story hit home. Take the kid down to a homeless shelter, show him his future.

Kick them out of my house. Seriously, by the time he/she is a teenager, I would have alread discussed this with him/her, so they would know not to do such a thing.
