I flew Air India between Newark and Mumbai via Paris last October. Despite other people's warnings, it was fairly uneventful. The worst part of the flight was the delay. The planes were 4 hours late departing from Newark, and 4 hours late departing from Mumbai.

Flight attendants were nice. Seats were okay. The movie screen and projector were ancient. Overall service was okay. Security was very tight. The plane was an old Boeing 747.

In Newark, after passing through airport security, AI had its own handbag security check at the gate. This was useless since people were walking freely in and out of the secured area.

On our return trip from Mumbai, we stopped in Paris for a few days. At check-in in Paris, AI inspected every bag (handbags and luggage) at the ticketing counter. We had to open everything.

Overall, it was better than what I was told but no comparison to Singapore Airlines.
