I have a 99 Ponitac Grand Am. Just this morning the Security Light came on, what does that mean? I have the unlock thingy on my keychain. When I went to ran an errand after leaving it sit for about 15 minutes, (and I unlocked the car using the unlock thingy on my key chain) then the light didn't come on?

"think about it" is on the right track. I'm not sure if your system uses RF identifcation to your FOB ("unlock thingy") or a large plastic handle of your key, or lastly a resister embedded in the key that is partially inserted. If it a resistor, the contacts could be worn in the key, lock or both. If it is this last case, you could try your second key. This gives the same problem as loose connections.

security lights are directly linked to the "pass-lock" system in you car witch is an anti-theft for the ignition, if the theft light is coming on and off you may have a problem at the connector that plugs into the back of the ignition switch.........i have seen this problem several times on that name of car, the wires are being pulled on by the tilting action of the steering wheel, and even more-so if the car has a remote starter in it, because the connections and tape would cause more "tighntess" around the wires.
have a mechanic look into the problem if it persists, but if the car "locks-up" meaning it cranks and tries to start but won't you will need to leave the ignion "on" untill the theft light goes out in order to start the car........this is explained in the owners book as well.
hope i could help
