If you drive, you can make it to Pittsburgh on $500. There are a lot of cheap hotels right out of the city. Food is really inexpensive here as well. Try hotwire.com for hotel reservations or AAA offers many discounts as well. Even if you aren't a AAA member, they never check my ID when I check in.

Just depends on how long you are going to stay. For 500 you should be able to do a weekend without any trouble. I wouldn't expect to do much more than that.

hotels.com might help.
Also, the Pittsburgh/PA tourism (whatever) would be helpful.

Take a Greyhound to Pittsburgh, roundtrip is around $80.00 (correction) In Pittsburgh you can take a train or bus around. Have you ever been to D.C.? It is really cool. And you can stop in D.C. for a day on your way to Pittsburgh.

Go to a State Resort Park. Their is always a tons of fun thing to do especially if you like the outdoors. Their is so much to do @ State Parks, dine, hike, swim, camping, theater, golf & etc...
It won't brake the bank either.
