If less people have sex before marriage, don't you think less babies will be born and so less strain on the planet's resources etc.

Well the theory suggests that yes it would, but in today's world there are many people that don't believe in that. If we are to allow freedom of thought and expression you could never implement and enforce such an idea. It would be unfair to take away people's choices. Marriage and not allowing sex before marriage is mainly seen as a religious idea and there are many people who don't follow religion. Should static views be imposed upon everyone

No, not really. Sex before marriage isn't really an environmental issue, it's a moral issue. (And even then, I disagree with the morality of the issue but that's another topic altogether!) Lots of people who have sex before marriage use protection and therefore have no babies as a result.

Take my family for example. I come from a very small family but that doesn't mean that every unmarried person is a eunuch or that every married couple only had sex once or twice! The real reason for this is that we're all very knowledgeable about birth control and as a result, there are no "oops" babies or illegitimate children in our family: every child born is "planned" for at least a year before being conceived.

The truth is that most of the babies being born in the world come from people who are married. But most of those people either don't believe in birth control or don't have access to it. The real way to control the population is to educate everyone about the consequences of too many people and inform them of the benefits of birth control.

what? You can't just say to people, right, now you are not allowed to have sex until you are married! It's a persons right to do this if they choose to!
BUT, I do think that if you are your partner can't support themselves and are under 21 then you should live in a communal hostel, NOT get a council house. That would stop a drain on resources. Plus, if nuserys were free, not only would that create hundreds of new jobs, but no one would be able to sit at home eating chocolate and watching tv, under the pretence they need to look after thier children. Before I get lynched, that's not aimed at everyone, and I know that most sinlge young mum's are good, but the few that take the pi ss need sorting out.

well, if you just look at it from the surface, yeah that's logical.

but people can so easily get married. then have sex. now that they are married, there's even LESS REASON to use birth-control as the child would no longer be considered a bastard. this might increase the amount of babies this one particular couple would have. also, because there's not any real love or solid base for the marriage except for having sex, the 'husband' would just easily divorce the woman to marry and have sex with someone else ... thus propagating the cycle over and over again!

Africans should be introduced to contraception before sex.

Its the simplest, cleanest ,safest method to prevent the spread of aids and the onset of famine.

Or will we have to listen to the narcissistic, sanctimonious preachings of bono and geldof for the next 20 years just so they dont have to go on big brother to keep their careers alive.

In some countries it's still a matter of survival. Alot of people born, die before they reach adulthood.

The war in Iraq and aids, obesity complications, heart disease, and cancer will pretty much take care of the population problem. I'm not worried.
