Hi, I know this is going to sound like a stupid question but I have never used powder makeups. I am 26 years old. I am not interested in using foundation but would be willing to use a powder. I heard that pressed powder doesn't really damage your skin. I am a black woman sort of like caramel complexion. Should I buy a powder that is lighter or darker than my complexion? I wouldn't use it everyday just when I'm going somewhere special and to look more grown up.

I know that with foundations you use a shade darker, so i would also do that with powders because if its too light, it will be noticeable, especially on darker complexions.

I use Neutrogena products because they are non-comedogenic, oil-free and hypo-allergenic. (plus they have special foundations that contain salicylic acid to help skin, just a note though you are not iinterested). Almay also provides products like this but I broke out when I used it, and never have with Neutrogena.

the powder i use is their "Healthy Skin Blends" which I think only comes in translucent, but since you have a caramel colored skin it should be able to work fine since it was designed to blend into most skin colors to match best. If you are worried about it not matching, they have other pressed powder products that will match your skin

Hi there, as someone else said try to match your natural complection. The best way to do this is when in the shop dab a little of the tester onto the back of your hand try a few out and the one you cant see will be the one that best matches your skin tone.
I agree if you have never worn foundation then dont start, you must have very lovely skin. Also a tinted moisturiser can look really natural and give your skin a healthy glow.

This is kinda hard to answer but my advice would be: First of all if your skin is sensitive you would want powder. It's the best for all skin types. I am using neutrogena mineral sheer it's like bare minerals but cheaper. it's around 10 bucks for a bottle. And what is nice is the colors blend in like there is a color for fair skin tan dark and a golden color. It comes in a brush and it is fabulous. I also use neutrogena skin clearing compact. All neutrogena products have a skin clearing acid in it that helps with skin problems. If you are willing to spend more money then would go to the bare essentials web site and see if there is a store near you to go in for a free make-over and they can tell you the best color for your skin, it's a little pricy but my friend wears it and she looks flawless. Another route is a department store make over they can pick out colors for you. The main thing with make-up and is kinda ironic is to look like you're not wearing any. Good luck

What you need to do is get a match exactly to your skin color, if you have to, go lighter, if you go darker you will get this weird think line around you hair line, also it may look like you are really fake. Try Mary Kay Dual coverage powder foundation, its lasts forever, and its only $14. its will give you a clean fresh look.

woo, 26 years old and no makeup before..your skin must be looking great! you should find a foundation with color that matches your face color...not any lighter or darker... and no powders will damage your skin, so worries, just remember to cleanse your face well. putting powder on your face is also way of presenting your yourself, ya know? have fun experimenting with the pretty colors and enhancing yourself with the power of makeup! =)

Hey, I DO use foundation but that's because I have lots of freckles. But just recently I've been using L'OREAL Hydra Perfecte Loose Powder. Oh my god, it is totally what your looking for.
I can't stand makeup lines and blotches on someones face. And alot of makeups DO THAT.
This stuff is very light and a little shimmery, but not like your in the ice capaides. It goes on smooth and you can easily blend it to make a little go a long way.
Now, I'm white so your on your own with which color to get. But I really think you'll like it. It smells awesome too!!

You are supposed to use the colour that is as close as possible to your own complexion. If you have to go either way (darker or lighter) try to keep in colouration with the colouring on your neck. Go check out a cosmetic counter in a department store, they are a great source for first time users.

You should go see a professional so they can help you out on matching the color closest to your skin tone.
