A bit more information is really required if you want a sensible answer eg

Q1. Where has he password protected it ie is it at a hardware level where the laptop wont boot without a password or is it at the operating system where a log on prompts for a password ??

Q2 Do you know what operating system he is running windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/linux/beos ??

Q3 Did you set the pc up or did a shop ??

Q4 Has anyone reinstalled the os since it was bought ??

Q5 Do you have a recovery disk ??

Q6 Can you log onto the laptop ?? If yes what kind of user are you ??

1. Know that if you are still logged on to the Administrator account you can change user profiles using the following steps. * Go to the green "Start Button" and click "Run" then in the text box type "cmd" without the quotes. * Type net user then press enter * Then again type "Net user [Username of the Account]*" then press Enter, without the [,], and quotes. Make sure you spell the username correctly, and you have the '*' * To change password press enter * Reset password to what ever you want. 2. Now if you are Logged out of the computer and cannot figure out the password at the start up screen, do the following: * Restart the computer and toggle the F5 button. * You will get screen that will ask you if you want to boot with command prompt (that is one way) or boot in safe mode without command prompt. 3. Notice that the computer will boot in safe mode in a small window and you will see a menu that asks which account you want to access. We know that the other accounts you can't get into but there will be a new account called computer administrator. 4. Click computer administrator and go to settings/control panel/user accounts. 5. Remove password. 6. Print out this page and have on hand for reference if you forget the steps. Does this help?

Easiest way without his knowledge is to use a bootable OS, if you are familiar with Linux, Knoppix is an excellent choice. Otherwise, there are many utilities available to remove admin passwords, I personally dont think a 15 yr. old should have unrestricted access to the net, so you may want to have him remove the password. If that fails try http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
Good luck

You need an Administrator account on his computer that you have a password for.

If you didn't do that in advance your only option is to have him log you on and then make an account.

I'm sure you can find a 3rd party app. that may be able to crack it.

But you shouldn't let your son lock you out of the laptop you probably bought for him.
