Is it your bank that is saying that a cheque was paid to you. If it was them and you are in dispute with them, they need to show you the proof that it was cashed. I think we need a bit mor information to answer fully.

If I understand you correctly, any cheque made out in your favour, banked by you into your account, would appear on your bank statement. If it doesn't, ask the bank to explain how you could possibly have received the funds.Even if the cheque bounced, there would still be entries on your bank statement. Also, the funds would show as having come out of the bank account of the person who sent you the cheque. Because, on the face of it, the issue seems so straight forward, I am wondering if there is more to it. Did you endorse the cheque over to someone else, or did you cash the cheque at the counter? Although unlikely these days, it would explain why there is no entry on your bank statement, even though you have had the benefit of receiving the funds. More info. needed.

demand sight of the cheque you supposedly signed, have proof of your signature with you,do you have a mortgage with the bank in question,or a hold savings with them ? If so tell them you will take your business elsewhere that will get their attention and hopefully teach the leeches a lesson.

Get a copy of the check. The back of the check should contain various endorsements. The endorsement of the ultimate depositor should be on the back if the check was paid.

It's up to the bank to prove they did pay you - not up to you!

If they are saying that they paid you then ask them to provide documented proof showing the account paid into, the account number and the sort code and the day it was cleared!

If they can't provide it - they ain't paid it!

Ask them to show you the signature on the check because if you didnt cash it then the signature wont be yours.

banking ombudsman is only way forward but your bank should have been able to sometimes wonder if banks care for the people who are their customers
