My employer doesn't pay for minutes...so if I was only scheduled till 10 and I'm there working and closing till 10:15 he will only pay me till 10. I thought it was illegal to do that, I thought that you have to get paid for every minute you're punched in. Am I right or wrong? Does it matter if it's a family owned business?

I don't think I'm uptight at all...If you add up all the extra hours I've been punched in that I'm NOT getting paid for it'll add up to about 2 hours...and that's money I could have in my pocket

I am not sure....most employers I know will round to the nearest 15 min....but at the same time....I would not worry about 15 min now and then though.....I am sure there are 15 min every now and then that you are not working when you should be.....everyone does that.....

You do not have to be paid for every minute you are punched in if your agreement is to work until 10:00. That would mean that you are paid until 10:00. This is a very common practice in businesses of all sizes. This is a small business I would assume and I would talk to the owner and ask him/her if you could be paid for these extra minutes when you have to work extra. Your only other option is to find another employer who will pay you for this time.

I believe you need to get paid for the whole time you punch in, if you use that system.

But if he or she asks you to help now and again and your shift runs a bit over, it's not a big deal unless they make a habit of it.

Good luck.

You're way to uptight if you're worried about 15 mins.
