Definitely water and pedialyte for hydration. Ripe bananas are said to make poop more solid, but I'm assuming that's for kids who aren't sick.
Let your doctor know about this symptom if you haven't already. Poop that's like water is cause for concern, but sometimes breastfed newborns can have some pretty liquidy stuff. Since he has stopped throwing up, I assume you are seeing some improvement in your son. I'd imagine the poop will get back to normal soon.
Call the doc, keep offering pedialyte or the Gerber version (my daughter liked this one better-apple flavor) to keep him hydrated.

He has diarrhea, most likely because of all the liquids he had during the flu. You need to continue to give him liquids or he may become dehydrated. There really isn't anything you *should* do. There are things you *can* do, but really you need to just let it take its course. If it goes on for more than a few days, then talk to his doctor about it. Otherwise, just leave it alone for now.
ETA: The first answerer suggested Pedialyte, but please know that Pedialyte is full of sugar and is not something your 8 month old (or any child) needs.

Our ped recommend Pedialyte only for when a child is vomiting and says it will actually make diarrhea worse. The BRAT diet helps, but as long as it's getting progressively a little better, he's fine.

It needs to work its way out of his system. Just give it a few more days, and his bowel movements should start getting back to normal. Just make sure he gets plenty of fluids and some solids now. If it doesn't get better in a few days, give his doctor a call.
