connect the tv to the computer using the hdmi-out on the computer's video card to the hdmi-in on the tv,then enable multiple display on the computer to use the lcd tv as a monitor.

Your laptop will need to have a video output that corresponds to one of your TV inputs. At home, my desktop graphics card has an HDMI output, so that's how I hook mine up. Also, I do use my LCD TV as a computer monitor.
